What is the danger
The product poses a chemical risk because the inner leather lining of the shoes and the silica gel sachets contain dimethylfumarate (DMF). The amount of the DMF in the lining varies between 2.2 to 2.8 mg/kg. In the sachets, the amount of DMF varies between 2.1 to 19 mg/kg. In the sachets containing grey or brown small balls, the amount of the DMF is of around 400 mg/kg. Dimethylfumarate is a substance which is strongly sensitising on contact with the skin, and consumer products containing dimethylfumarate are banned according to Commission Decision 2009/251/EC.
