What is the danger

The dimension of the openable Europe plug is significantly smaller than required. Single-pole or partial insertion of a plug into the adaptor is possible. If one of the pins is inserted in a socket, the user could touch the pins of the other plug. Furthermore, the product has a protection class II plug and therefore no earth connection. However, an appliance of protection class I (which should be earthed) may be connected to the device and would consequently not be earthed.

Requirements breached

The user could touch live parts and receive an electric shock. The product does not comply with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive and the relevant European standard IEC 60884.

Notification A12/1741/19 has been temporarily withdrawn from report 47-2019 of 22-11-2019 at the request of the notifying authority while waiting results of further investigation. Notification INFO/0121/19 published on weekly report 2019-44 has been upgraded to article 12 notification (serious risk) with reference number A12/1810/19. The upgrade was done upon request of the notifying authority after providing detailed description of the risk.
